Larry E. Brasher’s first Santa Fe Locomotive Development volume, released in 2006, told the story of the development of ultimate steam passenger and freight locomotives. After illuminating the Santa Fe Railway’s mastery of steam locomotive technology the first volume also reached into the beginning of the Santa Fe’s influence on the pioneering diesel locomotives which by 1934 were at the crossroads of making steam locomotives obsolete.
