Handsomely done description of contemporary branch line and shortline railroad operations in western Oregon. As the economic heart of the state, this area and its intricate network of rail lines approaches the trackage density found in many eastern and northern states. Small railroads undertook much of the original construction in the area, hauling agricultural goods and serving the logging industry in the foothills and mountains, and they still serve the same function. ...
